Grow Your Own Vegetables

Sustainability and Self-sufficiency seem to be the buzz words of this decade and for good reason.

So if you would like to play your part and start growing you own vegetables then check out some of the links below.  If you grow more than you need then keep an eye on the Plant Swap page as there may be people who want to swap vegetables too!

The BBC has a great site for those wanting to grow their own vegetables

www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/digin

If you fill in the application form they will send you free seeds for basil, carrots, courgettes, mixed leaves and french beans and you can watch videos on the site showing you how to plant the seeds and grow on.

You can also sign up for an email newsletter full of growing tips and follow their recipes once you have harvested your veg.

For younger members visit  CBeebies Dig in

You can also download their Dig In Growing Guide ( you will need Adobe Acrobat for this)

For general gardening tips the BBC Website is great

For those of you in flats, but who would like to grow vegetables then do visit the Land Share tab and see if you can be linked up with a neighbour who will let you use a portion of their garden in return for a share of the vegetables.
