The Big Lunch 2011

The Big Lunch is on Sunday, 5th June this year – so time to get planning!

Those who joined the Big Lunch last year said it was great fun, so come along and join in this year and bring your friends from outside the development.  Don’t forget it’s an opportunity to meet your neighbours, for the kids to make new friends – bring your picnic or something more grand, spread it on a rug or go the whole hog and have a gazebo and table and chairs.   Continue reading The Big Lunch 2011

The Big Lunch

Your invitation to THE BIG LUNCH

Sunday 18th July

on Amis Way/Wordsworth Ave green area

Last year nearly a million people met to celebrate the Big Lunch across the UK, making communities feel closer. Sunday 18th July is a day of rest, a day for family and friends, a day with stacks of daylight and the weekend before most schools break up.
  • Most importantly, bring along your own food and drink, and mix with others on your street
  • Bring cushions, stools, chairs, picnic blankets… lug a sofa out!
  • Bring gazebos, parasols and tarpaulins
  • Get the kids to organise games & activities – boules, juggling balls, hoop-la
  • If anyone plays a musical instrument, provide some peaceful relaxing background music
  • Remember to bring along a trash-sack for your rubbish, and recycle your empties
  • Perhaps we can go “on tour” to the other Big Lunch groups on Trinity Mead?
We’re setting up our picnic blanket (and possibly gazebo) on the grass by the conker tree, next to the fenced-in playground from about 12 noon. Anyone want to join us? And, if it rains, well just remember it rarely rains all day in July and might be quite refreshing!

See you there!

The Big Lunch

For those of you living near the corner of Wordsworth and Longfellow there is going to be a Big Lunch gathering on the little fenced in green.   If you want to join on to a group there do email Victoria Alcock or just turn up - her familiy and a few others from Longfellow Road will be heading to Wordsworth Avenue play area at about 12-30 (ish) on 18 July. They plan to set out blankets under the tree and look forward to others coming and joining them!

If others would like to share their plans then either leave a comment under this post or drop me an email through the ‘contact us’ page.

The Big Lunch

The date is fast approaching and we have heard that lots of families are planning to bring their picnic along and join in.

Maybe you have already got together with your neighbours or perhaps you are looking for people to join up with.  Leave a comment below and let us know.

If it is going to be as hot as this you may want to invest in a simple gazebo – I have heard that some people have found them for as little as £15 in places like Argos.

May help to keep off the odd shower as well!

The Big Lunch

Have you heard about The Big Lunch?

It’s a one-day get together with your neighbours on Sunday 18th July 2010. It can be anything from a simple lunch to a full-blown street party with DJs and a hog roast. The idea was started by The Eden Project and last year over 1million people over the UK attended a Big Lunch Event.

It sounds like an ideal way to get to know your neighbours – we can use the greens to hold the lunches and everyone contributes food and drink.

I am sure you all have lots of ideas of how to make it fun for adults and children alike.  If you want to get more of a feel for the idea then visit The Eden Project’s Big Lunch Web page: www.thebiglunch.com.

I will start a Big Lunch Tab on the menu above, where you can go to find more information and any posts on the Big Lunch will be in the Big Lunch category on the right.

SO , if it sounds fun to you, let’s have your comments and get the conversation going.  Just click on ‘leave a comment’  below and have your say.  If you want to read others’ comments, again click on “comments” and you will be able to view them.
